The Court House

The long mixed border at this historic old court house in Oxfordshire needed a new lease of life as a centrepiece within the garden. Over time, large drifts of phlox and asters had come to dominate the planting, creating periods through the year when there was little interest. Overlooked by the main house, the border needed a more considered approach to extend the flowering season while retaining the established character of the garden.

New plants were introduced amongst the existing planting, while many of the larger clumps of perennials were lifted, divided and redistributed throughout the border. This helped to establish a stronger rhythm while bringing a greater looseness and variety to the planting, creating a longer season of interest and a more balanced composition.
